How to be productive during lockdown?

The government has declared lockdown for 21 Days and everyone is expected to stay at home for maintaining social distancing. It might become frustrating to just stay at home, not go out, not be able to hit the gym or play cricket. This could further increase stress levels, demotivate and lead to fatigue.

So, here is a list of things you should try out during these times:

BE AWARE

Being aware is extremely important. One should be aware of his/her emotions and feelings and also be aware of happenings outside their home.

  • Watch news to stay updated about the status around the world. Stay tuned on Our Vadodara to get instant local news updates.
  • Write down your thoughts in a diary to be aware of your own emotions.
  • Make a list of things you are grateful for.
  • Wake up early and take a walk in your balcony, terrace or garden to get fresh and natural light.
  • In an effort to make people aware and to stop them from stepping out of their homes, create blogs or vlogs.

STAY HEALTHY
Since you will be staying indoors, it’ll be extremely helpful for you to stay physically and mentally healthy and fit too.

  • You can watch YouTube videos for exercising at home.
  • Do yoga and meditate.
  • Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • You can have a dance routine or practice aerobics to your favorite songs.

LEARN
You have ample time to invest in yourself. Give yourself some time and learn whatever you never had the time for.

  • Learn a new instrument you have always wanted to play.
  • Learn a new form of dance by watching YouTube videos and practice it.
  • If you don’t know how to cook at all, this can be the best time to learn.
You can learn your favorite recipe and experiment with it.
  • Learn to bake.
  • Learn a new language, because you never know what you may need it for, once you are ready to go back into the virus-free world.
  • Watch DIYs on Pinterest or YouTube and make something.
  • Learn the whole lyrics or your favorite song, or learn a new song in a new language.
  • Learn the words of the song ‘Breathless’ by Shankar Mahadevan and practice singing without stopping for a breath.
  • Learn how to pluck your own eyebrows, waxing etc.

DECLUTTER

Decluttering your thoughts in the form of writing poetry or cleaning up your closet is extremely helpful.

  • Clean your study table, your room and your wardrobe.
  • Clean out your spices section in the kitchen.
  • Declutter your bathroom counter.
  • Make a scrapbook or journal of your thoughts and de-clutter your mind.
  • Write your first draft of the novel.
  • Declutter your phone or laptop. Delete your spam mails and clear storage.

STUDY TABLE INTO WORK PLACE

Since it’s not a vacation, you have a lot of work to do. Convert your study room/table into your workplace.

  • Clear away all the distracting things from the desk.
  • Keep chargers and cables at one place.
  • Make sure there’s enough lighting.
  • You can relax while you work, but ensure that you utilize this time efficiently.
  • The employee trusts you and hopes for you to work to your full potential, so maintain that trust and communicate whenever necessary.

HOBBIES
We all have different hobbies, but in this fast-paced life, where a student wakes up early in the morning, goes to school, comes back and goes to tuition and returns home tired and sits down to complete his/her homework and office workers go to the office and return late and exhausted, it becomes difficult for someone to continue with their hobbies.

  • Bring out your colours and paint; draw, sketch, scribble.
  • Play your favorite instrument.
  • Read your favorite book again.
  • Write poems, stories or letters.
  • Sing and dance, listen to your favorite band or album.

HAVE FUN
It’s important to have fun while you’re at home with your family. Explore all of your ideas of fun as long as it includes social distancing and not going out in the public.

  • Watch your favorite movies or series online. You can Netflix and Chill with your friends using the ‘Netflix Party’ chrome extension and chat at the same time and pass commentary online.
  • Video call your loved ones. Offer some consolation to the ones in distress and are far away from home.
  • Critique a book, film or a show.
  • Snuggle in your bed and watch a stand-up comedy, online.
  • Read conspiracy theories and formulate your own. Keep your grey cells engaged.
  • Play indoor games like Ludo, Carrom, Chess, Pictionary etc, with your housemates.
  • Watch all the Harry Potter series in one go. Watch Marvel and DC films in chronological order. Watch each and every Disney and Pixar film.
  • Complete a puzzle yourself or help your kid with it. Learn Rubik’s Cube, solve a Crossword or Sudoku.
  • Make Memes. Put your humorous personality to use.
  • Try face-masks and a 10-step skin care routine.
  • Write letters to your friends and family. You can post it online.
  •  Spend quality time with your children. Make sure your pet gets some time of yours too.
  • Play any random movie and mute the dialogues. Make up your own dialogues and say it out with different emotions and expressions.
  • Water your plants.
  • Interview your parents or grandparents or play ‘The Neelam Show’ from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. You prompt a word and whatever it reminds the next person of will have to say it out loud without taking much time.
  • Make a new wish-list of things you want to achieve, places you want to visit etc.
  • Memorize that periodic table. It’ll be helpful for you.
  • Bring out the Legos and have fun building things.
  • Grow your beard/hair. Moisturize it. Pamper it.
  • Practice writing with your non-dominant hand.
  • Watch horror movies and read horror books. You might have nothing to be afraid of because the real horror is in the outside world or if you step outside.

Make use of your quarantine time. Make yourself useful. Reconnect, relive and re-think.
Rest and conserve your energy! Stay home. Stay safe and be smart.
