Vadodara received more than two inches of rain last night. The rains were accompanied by strong winds, which led to the caving-in of three dilapidated buildings, including a 100-year-old building. The corporation had issued warning notices to the homeowners from time to time, but the owners did not take the matter seriously and put their lives in jeopardy.
One of the dilapidated building in Kuberbhai Chandni Pol in Mandvi Ghadiyali Pol collapsed last night with no casualties. The building had been closed for last four years. There are seven such 100-year-old houses in the plot of Navidharati Rana Punch in Bardanwala Street near Jubilee Bagh. A part of Kishore Rana’s house also collapsed in the early morning hours. Locals rushed to the spot and informed the fire brigade. The troops rushed to the spot and Rana was retrieved from the debris and was sent to Sayaji Hospital.
In Kalupur Naka, another 100-year-old building collapsed. Two of the family members were crushed under the debris but were later retrieved.
The corporation had issued notices to these seven houses on June 29, 2020, to get their house repaired. The corporation had even issued a notice for the demolition of two buildings. But, the landlords did not pay any heed to the notices and endangered themselves and those around them as well with their ignorance.
