In a significant effort to combat tobacco addiction among the youth, the District Health Department in Khambhat organized a workshop as part of the ‘National Tobacco Control Program’. This workshop aimed to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of tobacco, to shed light on the socio-economic disadvantages associated with its use, and educate participants about the provisions of the ‘Tobacco Control Act’. The event witnessed the presence of Dr. Rajesh Patel, the Epidemic Medical Officer, who played a crucial role in enlightening the students.
During the workshop, Dr. Rajesh Patel delivered an interesting presentation, emphasizing on the various health risks and consequences associated with the consumption of tobacco. He provided students with valuable insights into the harmful effects that tobacco can have on their physical well-being, as well as the detrimental impact it can have on their social and economic lives.
Furthermore, the Doctor explained the legal framework of the Tobacco Control Act, ensuring that the participants were well-informed about the regulations in place to restrict tobacco usage. By understanding the provisions of the act, the students gained a deeper comprehension of the importance of tobacco control and the role they could play in promoting a tobacco-free environment.
Inspired by the knowledge imparted during the workshop, the students made a collective commitment to break free from tobacco addiction. They pledged to take proactive measures to make their homes, society, and villages completely tobacco-free zones. By doing so, they aimed to protect not only their own health but also the well-being of their communities.
The inauguration of the “Tobacco-Free Youth” campaign in Khambhat marked a significant step forward in the battle against tobacco addiction. The workshop served as a platform to empower the youth with knowledge. By taking an oath to eradicate tobacco from their lives and actively working towards creating a tobacco-free society, these young individuals are set to make a lasting impact on their community’s health and well-being.
The District Health Department, along with Dr. Rajesh Patel, commended the students for their dedication and commitment to the cause. They expressed their support for the ongoing efforts to promote tobacco control and encouraged education and awareness initiatives to sustain the momentum.
