The Government of India has made a significant adjustment in the charger used to charge mobile phones to benefit customers and prevent electronic waste. They have requested that all phone and smartphone manufacturers utilise the same USB Type-C charging connection. The government has set the date for implementation. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has practical guidance for USB Type-C charging connectors that will be utilised in the country’s mobile phones, smartphones, and tablets. According to Rohit Kumar Singh, Consumer Affairs Secretary, firms have nearly agreed to use USB Type-C as the charging connector for all smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
This decision will be fully implemented by the government by December 2024. Back in June 2023, the European Parliament approved an order stating that by the end of 2024, all consumer electronics—Android and iOS (iPhones and AirPods)—will use USB Type-C as their standard charging connector.
Furthermore, by 2026, this law might be applied to laptops as well. Consumers will no longer need to purchase a separate charger when purchasing a new gadget (smartphone, earphones, tablets, and so on) since they will be allowed to utilise a single charger for the whole category of small and mid-sized portable devices under the new guidelines.
