Innovative Solar-Powered Bench with Charging Points Designed by MSU Students

“Vadodara, Gujarat – A Sustainable Bench Offering Comfort, Charging, and Shade”

In a remarkable feat of innovation, Haya Sheth, an MSc student at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, has designed a groundbreaking outdoor bench. This innovative bench, designed with an eye on sustainability, comfort, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), promises shaded seating, solar-powered lighting, and charging points. Sheth’s creation has the potential to transform public spaces and promote well-being.

Designing for Comfort and Sustainability

Sheth’s innovative outdoor bench is a testament to thoughtful design. It provides lower back support, ensuring comfort for users. The sturdy construction incorporates heat-reflective finishes and durable materials, promoting sustainability. The design uses RCC for construction, blue terrazzo for the seat, and teal vinyl for heat reflection. It even offers smooth curves, handrests, and smart features like plug points and USB ports for charging laptops and phones.

Solar Energy-Powered Comfort

One of the bench’s standout features is its solar-powered lighting and charging capability. Solar panels, placed atop a pergola structure, generate energy to power the bench’s lighting and charging points. It’s a testament to the fusion of sustainability and convenience, aligning with SDG 11, which emphasizes sustainable urban development.

Versatile Applications

The innovative outdoor bench is not limited to one setting. It can find a home in various public spaces, from residential gardens and community areas to sidewalks and commercial spaces. It offers shaded seating for the public and can be used in private outdoor spaces as well. Its versatile design makes it a valuable addition to any environment.

A Bright Future for Solar Benches

Haya Sheth’s innovative outdoor bench design represents a step toward a more sustainable and convenient urban landscape. With its eco-friendly features and versatile applications, it has the potential to enhance public spaces across Vadodara and beyond. The next step? Bringing these benches to municipal corporations for implementation, potentially transforming outdoor seating experiences for residents and visitors alike.
