Intestines developed outside the body of an infant surgically implanted at Sayaji Hospital

Sayaji Hospital is the largest hospital in Central Gujarat and provides treatment services not only to the districts of East or South Gujarat but also to the patients coming from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.

The Pediatrics Department of Sir Sayaji General Hospital is functioning under the leadership of Dr. Sheila Iyer. Dr. Sheila said recently a baby was brought from Alirajpur, about 200 kilometers away from Vadodara, having difficulty in breathing.

The girl weighed less than 1,750 grams, had difficulty in breathing due to inadequate development of her lungs, and was referred to Sayaji Hospital by the Madhya Pradesh Health Department due to lack of proper treatment facilities in Alirajpur.

The team of the Pediatrics Department took care of the medical problems of the child and gave stability to the health by keeping the baby on a sip ventilator and giving her expensive medicines like surfactants. At present, her life has been saved, and is undergoing treatment. The doctor says that it is no less than a miracle that a newborn baby could be brought here after such a long journey with shortness of breath.

This baby’s intestines have developed outside the body at birth. Medical science calls this discrepancy like Gastroschisis.

The baby’s intestines developed outside the body was surgically implanted in the original position inside the body. Her condition improved and the organs of the body are functioning properly. As a result, her health stabilized, improved, and the parents are relieved.

Another child was born with the difficulty of a diaphragmatic hernia. The baby’s abdominal membrane was defective due to the irregular development of organs like the intestines in the mother’s abdomen. The baby was treated and given a new life.

In another case, a child was brought here from Netrang in Bharuch district with an esophagus and trachea attached to the body. The complex surgery on the delicate body was done very skillfully and both the vital organs were implanted and the baby was given a new life.

Dr. Sheelaben says that the physical and anatomical complications of such premature babies are a test of medical knowledge.
