Know Your Candidate: Harsh Sanghavi from Majura, Surat of BJP

Let’s unfold the profile of Harsh Sanghavi, Gujarat state home minister and sitting MLA from Majura assembly constituency of Surat. Firstly depicting his personal arenas, Harsh Sanghavi is scion of RameshbhaiBhuralalSanghavi, a diamond merchant of surat. Harsh Sanghavi was born in Surat on 8th january, 1985 in a Gujarati Baniya family. In early days, joining Yuva Morcha, the youth cell of BJP to being appointed as a youngest general secretary of state for the BJP & now being incumbent as MLA from Majura seat & home minister of Gujarat state, Sanghavi has come a long way. In 2017, Harsh was appointed as the national vice president of Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha. Formerly, he has also worked with Anurag Thakur, the minister of Information & Broadcasting.

Sanghavi is holding his office as an MLA from Majura seat of Surat since 2012. Member of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), he was first elected in 2012 Assembly elections with unprecedented 73.54% margin votes supporting him. He was the youngest MLA of Gujarat at the age of 27 years. Again, in 2017, he continued holding his seat after 2017 assembly elections as he outshined with 76.65% votes, therefore grabbing about 3% more support than 2012 assembly elections. He became Home minister of Gujarat on 18th september 2021 in CM Bhupendra Patel’s cabinet.

Throwing light on Sanghavi’s social work, he along with around 400 volunteers joined hands together on 28th June, 2015 at Navdi Ovara, on the bank of river Tapi in Nanpura to clean it. Volunteers took hectic task of removing plastic & other waste, wearing T-shirt with a message written “Clean Tapi,Clean India”. Flashing back during Covid-19 pandemic, Sanghavi was one of the first MLA to start a 200 bed oxygen supported hospital. Furthermore, he along with his team started delivery of food, medicines, etc. essential commodities to elderly people at their home.

Being like a support system of BJP, Sanghavi recently took visit of Vadodara in an attempt of preventing BJP’s damage control & convincing Dinesh Patel from Padra, Madhu srivastav from Waghodia& Satish Patel from Karjan who were going to give nominations for fighting independently because they were not given tickets by BJP this time.

Concluding all, It depends upon voters of Majura whether they support Sanghavi like they did in the last 2 terms or not. Results will reveal whether overwhelming support by voters will continue with Sanghavi or Balwant Shantilaljain from congress & P.VS. Sarma from AAP who are standing against him on the Majura seat will break his record.
