License of the fair price shop in Karelibaug Vadodara suspended for 90 days

To investigate the irregularities taking place in the fair price shops, prompt action has been taken by the Supply Branch of the Collectorate in Karelibagh, Anandnagar by the city police. This is done as per the instructions and guidance of District Collector Shalini Agarwal.

According to the information, with immediate effect, the license of the shop involved in this incident has been suspended for 90 days. 4,194 kg of leftover grains, sugar, and pulses have been seized from the shop and a police complaint has been lodged against the persons involved.

The district supply officer said that they got the information from Sub-Inspector of DCB, Vadodara City that Deepak Patni, a shopkeeper was persuading to sell the government food grains privately in Karelibagh Anand Nagar. Upon receiving the information, immediately the Chief Supply Inspector and the team were dispatched to the spot by the officer. The premises and the shop were inspected by the team along with the team of DCB Police, Vadodara.

The supply department and police team caught and questioned Dakshaben R Ghanchi, who had a government-approved fair price shop, and his son Deepak R Ghanchi who worked there. During the investigation, a back room of the shop was found where the government grains were packed in private bags and were prepared for selling. The same was also admitted by him.

Out of the said quantity, the quantity packed in a private bag and electric weight machine and empty sacks was seized by the police and an FIR has been lodged against the accused under Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Goods Act, 1955. Further investigation is on in the matter.

Based on the irregularities found in the inspection of the shop, all the remaining quantity of the said shop like wheat – 2673 kg, Rice 1097 kg, Sugar 174 kg, gram-250 kg has been seized by the supply office.
On the basis of the report of the Chief Supply Inspector, the Government has started an investigation against them with immediate effect.
