Schools equate to our second homes, temples for learning and a kingdom of knowledge. But what happens when their basic skeleton is on the verge of breaking down, harming those who look up to it?
Such is the case with Bavamanpura’s Zaverchand Meghani’s Primary School that is under the Municipal Corporation of Vadodara, where poorly maintained infrastructure may fall down any moment.
Built in the year 1973, the school’s reconstruction is long due. In a letter written to the school by the corporation, it is highlighted that it is better to take precautions before the season’s monsoon hits the city, in order to avoid any human loss. The current state of infrastructure calls for immediate evacuation of students as the old slabs and cement crust may fall off at any given moment. The situation seems to get worsened with the coming rains as the rods once used to build the building are also rusted.
The corporation has requested the principal to shift the school to a new housing or building wing and refrain from putting the lives of primary school going kids in danger.
