The Unique Story of the Nursing Staff Sisters of the New Civil Hospital Performing Their Duties with Full Psychological, Social and Medical Dedication.
Despite battling third-stage cancer for the last 12 years, Head Nurse Mina Parmar has been regularly on duty to care for patients.
Despite having 99% physical paralysis in his 27-year-old son, Kalpana Vashi was on duty in both shifts at the time of Corona.
At the time of Covid, Head Nurse Ranjana Chaudhary served the pediatric patients in the children’s ICU ward as her own children.
Nurses play a vital role in keeping patients healthy. The birthday of the world’s first nurse Florence Nightingale – May 12 is celebrated around the world as International Nurses’ Day. Head nurses Ranjana Chaudhary, Mina Parmar, and Kalpana Vashi, who have been on duty at the new civil hospital for years, have served thousands of patients and earned the affection of the patients. These nurses have set an excellent example of ‘Jan Seva is the only service to God’ by serving Dardi Narayan with complete dedication psychologically, socially, and medically. The story of a nurse who prioritizes her duty despite having been diagnosed with cancer for 12 years and serving patients with positivity and fearlessness at the risk of her life or forgetting many family grievances regardless of her children is truly touching.
Mina Parmar, a 58-year-old head nurse who has been working in a civil hospital for the past 31 years, has been serving patients in the Civil Special OPD ward for the past 12 years despite being in the third stage of breast cancer. So far, she has undergone eight chemotherapy and 43 radiation procedures as well as one operation. But she returned to duty at once after 15 months of treatment for this serious illness.
Mina states that she joined Surat Civil Hospital in 1986 as a nurse. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2010 after being diagnosed with a persistent illness in 2008. In the early days civil operations, as well as cancer treatment, began. She stated that when she was living alone in these challenging times, her fellow nurses were incredibly supportive. She urged the young nurses to always be fearless and honest in their duties as well as work in a positive manner.
Meanwhile, Kalpana Vashi, a 58-year-old head nurse (native of Navsari) described her experience, saying, “I have been working in the field of nursing for the last 33 years in Civil and now in the Trauma Center. My 27-year-old child has 99% physical paralysis. So, with the care of my bedridden child, fulfilling my duty towards the patients, I am firmly fulfilling both the challenging responsibilities. But, at this time, my husband is leaving the mill job and taking care of the child like a mother so that I can fulfill my duty without any hindrance. Due to my husband’s support, I can work in a sensitive department like Trauma Center without having to worry about the child.
“I worked in double shifts during the covid period, but I was very worried about my child not getting an infection, and I had to stay away from the child for several days because of the transportation,” she said. Kalpana has become popular through the continuous service of Dardi Narayan.
“My 22-year-old daughter is suffering from paralysis,” said Ranjana Chaudhary, a nine year old head nurse from Bardoli who has been serving in the civil service for the past 28 years. I am on duty in the hospital with the responsibility of taking care of her as well as the livelihood of the family. I used to see my daughter among the pediatric patients in the ICU ward at the time of Covid. During this challenging time, I was worried that my daughter would not get infected with the corona, but I always put my duty first.
