Meeting held to plan ahead for possible floods, heavy rains and cyclone in Vadodara district

A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Resident Additional Collector Dilip Patel for pre-planning to deal with possible floods, cyclone and heavy rains in the coming monsoon season in Vadodara district.

Dilip Patel said that it usually rains from June to October and rescue operations are carried out during heavy rains. Apart from that pre-monsoon operations carried out by various offices and preparations have to be made for the upcoming monsoon season.

He gave instructions to mark the villages before the rains, cut off roads, high flood levels of the time as well as high flood level marking of dam site. He further instructed to remove the encroachment around the river, clean areas nearby the river, remove blockages inside the canals. Also, to prepare list of flood affected areas and blockage areas and submit survey report of inspection.

He also gave instructions to clean lakes, drains, canals as well as low lying areas in rural-urban areas affected by previous flood waters and to make arrangements for water disposal. Relevant offices at village, urban and taluka level were asked to update and send their disaster management plan.

He instructed to update the control room before monsoon and to keep the control room (1077) (0265- 2427592) open for 24 hours during monsoon season.

Apart from this, he instructed to implement the guidelines of COVID-19, and in case of emergency he instructed to prepare shelters for the covid positive and non positive patients and temporary relief camps separately and make a list and check them.

He said to keep a watch for trees falling on the roads so that roads do not get blocked in the areas affected by the rains and storms. Places that receive more rain and more flow of water, marking work should be done to stop movement of people. He urged to carry out repairs of poles and power lines as per the requirements.

He also instructed the concerned officers and employees to inform the control room in advance if it is necessary to report the release of water in case of heavy rains. He also said that the weather department would keep updated on the weather. He said, Relevant offices immediately completed the work assigned to them and giving details of that work at the review meeting. The meeting was attended by officials from various departments.
