Mentally disturbed policeman who set himself on fire has passed away

Hasmukh Parmar, a 56-year-old assistant sub-inspector to the police attempted to take his own life by setting himself on fire at his residence in Sawad quarters in Harni. He was rushed to a private hospital in Waghodia Road with 70 percent burns and passed away this morning.

Parmar is who is posted in Sayajiganj police station, has been on sick leave since the last six days. He went about his daily routine yesterday and even went to the terrace to do yoga. His neighbors and family were alarmed when they heard loud cries from the terrace and saw Parmar in flames.

His colleague had reported that Parmar had previously attempted suicide by overdosing on pills, and was under a lot of stress and got upset if he was asked to do active duty. Since he was on sick leave for the last six days, the police have ruled out duty-related stress as the reason behind his suicide.
