MGVCL employees on mass leave on July 1

Madhya Gujarat Vij Company Limited (MGVCL) is the leading Power Distribution Company in Gujarat which distributes electricity in the central area of Gujarat. It is responsible for the reliable and affordable power distribution in the residential areas, commercial complexes, streetlights, waterworks, agriculture, traction as well as industries.

The employees of MGVCL are on duty every season and even during the challenging times of the pandemic, their performance was applauded by the government and the people too. But recently, 3,500 employees of MGVCL had decided to take a mass leave on July 1. This step was taken after 800 of the employees were given a collective notice by the management and the MD. The employees gathered at the MGVCL head office gate at Race Course and shouted slogans and protested against the management’s decision to serve notice to the employees. They also allege that they were harassed in the name of disciplinary action and demand cancellation of the notice given to them.

Girish Joshi, N.U Nayak and Mukesh Nayak from Gujarat Energy Joint Coordinating Committee formed an agitation against the collective notice. They claim that the agitation is not for any financial gain not even against the government, but it is a protest against the notice given to the employees and against the MD and senior officials of the company. Although it may impact the power supply and maintenance, the employees feel wronged and showed their unity in the fight.
