At midday on Thursday, the Dabhoi Taluka’s Mobile Veterinary Hospital (MVD), led by veterinary Executive Officer Dr. Chirag Parmar and Pilot Tousif Pathan, was on its way to Simaliya hamlet for treatment. Chirag was startled to see little birds fall to the ground. He investigated and discovered the bird was a small breed of Swallow, a migratory species that can be found in particular places throughout the winter. This bird can be found near Dabhoi’s Wadhwana Lake, famed for its unique birds.
Humans, animals, and even birds have been affected by climate change, and prompt assistance can sometimes save lives. A mobile veterinary dispensary rescued a little migratory Swallow bird from Cold Shock Hypothermia in the Vadodara district.
Due to an abrupt drop in body temperature caused by a change in the environment, this bird succumbed to Cold Shock Hypothermia and fell to the ground. Some animal lovers contacted the Karuna Helpline in 1962, and the message got relayed to the MVD. The MVD got instructions to administer the appropriate therapy.
“The bird was in bad condition and tried to crawl, but the weather proved too much for it. I first wrapped it in cotton to give some warmth and later gave heat therapy by turning on the heater of the ambulance. After nearly 40 minutes of necessary therapy including Melonex and Vimeral drops and released it after recovery,” said Dr. Chirag.
