It was a pleasant evening for the Mehta family on a typical Sunday at the Meghdoot Society in Karelibaug. However, the case wasn’t the same for this rather shy reptile that wanted to spice up their blissful evening.
A monitor lizard shocked the Mehta family as they witnessed it crawl, just a few feet away, into the house. Stunned by what they had just seen, they made a call to Rinav Kadam, a volunteer of Gujarat Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA). Kadam rushed to the spot and started the search for the monitor lizard everywhere in the house. The member of the family stated that the lizard entered the kitchen through an open door. The search for the lizard went on for over an hour, but the lizard was nowhere to be found, after which Kadam checked the flour mill in the kitchen. The monitor lizard had entered the mill, and was found stuck inside, trying to escape. After almost 15 minutes of its rescue operation, the lizard was safely brought out of the mill.
The lizard had ventured out of the Vishwamitri River, located right behind the Society. The family said that it was the first time they had seen a monitor lizard in this area.
The reptile is known to move fast on ground and may bite if it is cornered. On the other hand, the monitor lizard prefer to be away from human habitat as they are rather cautious.
