National Hockey Player from Vadodara commits suicide at friend’s house

Vivek Pandey, a 22 year old National Hockey Player residing in Vadodara ended his life at a friend’s house in Manjalpur on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday morning, Pandey informed his coach and other players that he was going to visit a friend who lives in Manjalpur. Pandey’s father, Subhash, who lives in Maneja, informed police that he had tried calling his son several times but when none were answered, he assumed that Pandey must be busy training.

However, when Pandey did not answer his father’s call on Monday, Subhash went to Manjalpur Sports Complex and was informed that the 22 year old went to his friend’s house. On reaching there, when all his knocks went in vain, Subhash approached Manjalpur Police Station. The police broke into the house to find the young hockey player hanging from the ceiling fan with a bedsheet. More so, he had even slit his wrists.

On inquiring further, the police said that his friend’s house was empty as he had gone to his native place for Diwali celebrations. A detailed statement of the event has not been taken yet as Pandey’s father was in deep shock and could not give any reason why his son would take this extreme step.
