Never Lose Hope: A Student’s Guide to Overcome Bad Result!

–  An article by Karan Modi

Okay, so you studied the whole year but didn’t get the grades you were looking for. Now, getting bad grades is stressful, yet it is not the end of the world! We know it is very depressing for any student to deal with a bad result, but if not dealt with properly, it can affect a student’s life in many ways.

To start with, it can make you question yourself and doubt your ability as a student, which is a very confidence-hampering thing. However, getting past the disappointment of a bad result is the very first step to redemption and turning a setback into a comeback!

Here, we will discuss some tips to cope with bad exam results:

Let yourself be sad

First thing first, it is okay to get sad. You invested a whole year preparing for this exam, you spent nights learning formulas, equations, and diagrams. Yet, the results were underwhelming and not what you expected. So, as a human, you will feel sad.

Let that emotion run and give yourself time to be sad. Taking time to process things will help you avoid burnout.

Take some time to process

Everyone will tell you to forget your grades and try harder next time. Some will say there is no point in dwelling on the past or letting your mind wander over mistakes. However, as a student, giving yourself time to evaluate your mistakes or spend time grieving can help you gain the perspective you need to face the next exam.

Time works miraculously when it comes to healing. Give yourself some extra time to ponder on what has happened. Give yourself some time to vent out your frustration, especially if you have worked hard to get good grades but failed to achieve that!

Stop thinking about it all the time

Once you have vented out your frustration, it is time for you to move on. One little yet difficult piece of advice you can follow is to focus on things you can change rather than clinging on to  things that you can’t.

This means, you should stop watching your result again and again. Watching it repeatedly will not change it, rather it will make you hopeless. Instead, stop thinking about it after some time and move on to the next step.

Work on your shortcomings

Now, it is time for you to evaluate yourself and identify the possible vulnerabilities. Spend time on finding practical solutions rather than procrastinating on how you would get things done.

For that, find out where you lacked and tailor the solutions to meet your needs. Practice everyday so that when the time comes, you are well-prepared for the battle that you once lost. The benefits may not show results immediately but will certainly reap rewards in the future.

Change your approach

This is the next important thing that you should do after getting a bad result. It is time for you to motivate yourself because nobody knows you better than yourself. Tell yourself that you’ll prepare in a better and methodical way.

Other than gaining subject knowledge, work on the mistakes that you made in the last exam. These mistakes can be lack of time management, wrong method to study, poor prioritization, or nervousness.

Identify it, face it, and overcome it by changing your approach towards the exam.

Self-harm is not the answer

This is by far the least talked about matter, yet it has so much importance. Harming yourself or ending your life is not the answer as it will not change your result. Think about your parents, your loved ones, and your friends before taking any steps.

Harming yourself will not solve anything, instead it will only cause mental trauma to your parents and loved ones. Rather than running away from a situation, it is better to stand tall against the problem and find solutions.

Talk to someone!

Be it your friends, family, mother, or father; talk to anyone about how you feel. Talking out about your problem and your feelings regarding the results will help you deal with the situation. A wise man once said; When you share your happiness, it increases and when you share your sadness, it decreases.

Conclusion

In conclusion, instead of dwelling on the disappointment, we should use it as an opportunity to learn, grow, and improve. By adopting a positive attitude and focusing on our strengths and weaknesses, we can identify areas that need improvement and work towards achieving better results in the future.

With perseverance, hard work, and a hopeful mindset, we can turn setbacks into comebacks and achieve our academic goals. Remember, all is not lost – there is always hope for a brighter future.
