Non-cooperation by the accused in Sheikh Babu’s custodial death case, body still missing

On Friday, the CID team reached Vadodara court with the six accused of the custodial death case of Sheikh Babu, as their 10-days remand ends today. The team asked for four more days of remand as the accused have not been cooperating with the investigation.

The team is yet to find the body, the vehicle used by the accused, things used, and people who helped them dispose of the body. The team will try to recover the body during this period.

Earlier the CID team had reached Fatehgunj Police Station for the reconstruction of the crime from the beginning when Sheikh Babu was arrested, in which room was he tied and beat up, how his body was disposed of after his death and other details. The accused were brought too to get the location of the body after the reconstruction of the crime.

Till date the body of Sheikh Babu has not been found.

Originally, Sheikh Babu was from Telangana and resident of Ahmedabad. He had come down to Vadodara for work reasons, and was detained by the Fatehgunj Police on suspicion. His family members started searching for him after he failed to return and then he filed a complaint of his disappearance in the police station. After a writ petition was filed in the High Court, the police investigation revealed that Sheikh Babu was tortured at the police station and his body was disposed of. A murder case was registered against PI Dharmendrasinh Gohil, PSI Dasharath Rabari, 4 constables- Pankaj, Yogendrasinh, Rajesh and Hitesh. All these accused had fled. Later they were handed over to CID Crime Branch, Gandhinagar and SP Girish Pandya started investigating the case.

All the accused appeared before the SP at the CID Crime Office in Gandhinagar and their corona tests were conducted. They were arrested after they tested negative and were produced before Vadodara Court. The court granted 10-day remand.
