Vadodara Traffic Police has started penalizing people for not wearing a mask.
Gujarat Government has transferred the powers to the Police Department for penalizing people seen without masks in a public place. Until now, this enforcement was done by Municipal Commissioners and Collectors.
On the first day of enforcement of this notification, Vadodara Traffic Police penalized people at major junctions of the city and explained to them the importance of wearing masks.
67 violators were penalized and a total fine of Rs 13,400 was collected on the first day.
The Gujarat-Home department said that non-compliance would attract a fine of Rs 200 for either not wearing a mask or spitting in the public.
Wearing a mask in public places and avoiding to spit helps to mitigate the spread of Corona Virus.
