Parul University’s project of Biomedical Waste segregation and Disposal

Parul University Engineering student Aneri Tank & Dhaval Padsala’s designed a project on Biomedical Waste segregation and Disposal. The purpose is to eliminate waste mismanagement in the hospital premises by using a high-tech dustbin.

Biomedical waste management is a crucial problem. Managing such highly contagious and infected waste needs proper and effective measures. Segregation is the foremost step for managing biomedical waste followed by disposal. Using a matrix circuit, waste segregation simplifies as various properties of the waste are taken to form rows and columns of the matrix.

The components used to form the matrix by the team are LEDs of different colors as per color-coded dustbins, switches, and resistors to limit the amount of voltage across it. Once the waste sorts, disposal is done using an automatic system made with an ultrasonic distance sensor, microcontroller, and a servo motor.

Each and every switch corresponds to at least one distance sensor circuit. The lid of the dustbin is controlled for effective disposal using Ultrasonic sound waves and Arduino UNO. Therefore, biomedical waste is segregated in color-coded dustbins with proper and safe disposal.

Applications:
1. Segregate biomedical waste into its respective color-coded dustbin.
2. Disposal with minimum human contact.

Certain weight threshold values can be installed below each dustbin to store a particular amount of waste which prevents it from flowing. Also, an automatic mechanical system can be installed to transfer the waste from smaller bins to larger bins to avoid the mismanagement of waste in the premises of the hospital.

The team members are Aneri Tank, Dhaval Padsala, Jaimini Acharya under the mentorship of Prof. Dimpal Khambhati.
