Physiotherapy sessions – A boon for the corona patients

An average of 300 patients is treated at Sayaji Hospital for coronavirus, including the isolation ward and ICU. Under the guidance of OSD Dr. Vinod Rao, Administrator Ashok Patel and Advisor Dr. Minu Patel has started physiotherapy sessions for these patients to help them both mentally and physically. 

For the physiotherapy treatment, the hospital has coordinated with Physiotherapy College. Under the leadership of the Senior Physiotherapist and Assistant Professor Dr. Chetna Seju, more than 25 physiotherapists visit for Yoga, laughing therapy, and walking exercises with the patients. The physiotherapists perform these exercises safely by wearing the PPE kits.

This keeps the patients engaged and after staying away from the family and friends for such a time, it alleviates their loneliness.

COVID patients face a problem of shortness of breath, which can be eased with the help of Yoga and lung exercises. Chandubhai Patel, a 74-year-old corona patient felt relief in his shortness of breath after his breathing exercises. He is also a patient of Blood Pressure and Diabetes and with physiotherapy, his treatment has become more effective. Likewise, another Corona patient, Rita Chauhan, is a 51-year-old woman who has been undergoing the treatment for a week also found the physiotherapy and the exercises to be quite beneficial for her.

The patients receive one or two hours of exercise sessions which include yoga, walking exercises, and laughing therapy twice a day- morning and evening. They claim that it has also boosted their self-confidence.
