Recently the dome of Arts faculty of MS University had been put under restoration by Archaeological Survey of India. MS University has given the work to them. Lately, police have received a complaint against the way the work is being done for the restoration.
A building that was constructed by visionary Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III, was given for restoration to Archaeological Survey of India for restoration, since last two and half years. Archaeological Survey of India, the ultimate Authority in our country on the conservation, restoration, and preservation of Heritage buildings was entrusted the job of restoration of world-renowned dome structure of Arts Faculty. ASI requested Rs. 2.50 crores to be deposited first. This was done 2 years back but work did not start despite of regular and repeated reminders. But recently police have received the complaint that they have punctured the envelope of Historic dome and subsidiary dome at multiple locations while erecting scaffolding, leading to this irreversible damage to the internal wall of this heritage structure. The deterioration of this marvelous structure will start from this very location thereon.
During the earlier restoration work, University had erected double stage scaffolding 10 years back without putting even a nail on the wall. This calls as violation of all the basic principles and ethics of conservation of heritage structures.
