While everyone around town is dealing with their post-Navratri hangover, two of the most popular Garba organisers in town are under the state’s goods & services tax (GST) department’s radar.
GST officials of Gujarat are auditing the offices of Palace Heritage Garba Mahotsav and the United Way of Baroda. With that, they are scrutinizing the books of account and other financial details of the Garba organisers. The scrutiny aims at confirming if the revenues and expenses are properly shown. The GST officials will also be contacting vendors, sponsors and service providers to cross-check the transactions.
United Way of Baroda has been organizing Navratri for a long time in the city now and collect entry fee as donation from thousands of Garba revelers from across the world. They entry fee is also being scrutinized by the officials.
On the other hand, Palace Heritage Garba Mahotsav at Navlakhi Ground was organized by the royal Gaekwad family for the first time this year.
“If any discrepancies are found, we will take further action”, said one of the SGST officials on the audit team that began the checking soon after Navratri.
