“Train cancellations and flight schedule disruptions leave passengers grappling with high airfare during railway maintenance, affecting travel between Mumbai and Vadodara.”
Travel between Mumbai and Vadodara has recently become a source of discomfort for passengers due to a combination of railway cancellations and disrupted flight schedules. The railway authorities implemented a block to facilitate train speed enhancements and maintenance work, leading to a temporary halt in train services. Consequently, many travelers were compelled to opt for air travel, only to find themselves burdened with unexpectedly high airfare costs.
Air India, in particular, canceled its night flights between Vadodara and Mumbai for the entire month of September. The airline attributed this decision to a shortage of available aircraft. These flights hold immense significance for both domestic commuters and international overnight travelers, as they provide a crucial link to Mumbai’s bustling airport.
For years, Vadodara Airport has maintained a convenient flight schedule, with morning departures to Mumbai and evening returns, catering primarily to the business community. However, the continuity of these services has been marred by frequent schedule cancellations by Air India, often stemming from aircraft availability issues.
Simultaneously, the Indian Railways temporarily suspended numerous trains plying the Mumbai to Ahmedabad route for two days. The interruption was a result of essential ‘maintenance work’ and efforts to enhance the speed of trains within the Surat division. This sudden suspension left passengers with limited options, forcing them to explore air travel as an alternative.
As travelers rushed to book last-minute flights, airfare prices soared significantly. Typically, a Mumbai flight ticket costs around 3,000 rupees, but during this period, prices surged to as high as 5,000 rupees. For instance, Indigo’s evening flight on a Sunday commanded a fare of 4750 rupees. Despite multiple flights scheduled between Vadodara and Mumbai on Sundays, the fares remained exorbitantly high.
The inconveniences faced by passengers during this period underscore the need for improved coordination and contingency planning between transportation authorities to minimize disruptions and ensure a seamless travel experience for commuters.
