District Collector Prabhav Joshi Chairs Drug-Free Campaign Committee Meeting, Aims for 50,000 People to Pledge Drug-Free Future
In a significant step towards combating drug addiction, District Collector Prabhav Joshi presided over a meeting of the District Level Drug-Free Campaign Committee at the Collector’s office. The committee discussed the upcoming month-long campaign and presented an action plan encompassing various activities. The Collector emphasized the importance of utilizing social media platforms to promote the drug-free campaign.
With the support of numerous organizations, approximately 110 volunteers have been appointed for the campaign in Rajkot district. The Collector proposed providing advanced training to these volunteers, highlighting the success stories of individuals who have overcome addiction, and raising awareness about the support groups available in the district.
During the meeting, the District Social Security Office shared information about their efforts to raise awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse. A specially designed mobile chariot has been traveling to villages in Rajkot district as part of the Nasha Mukti Abhiyan, educating residents about the perils of intoxication. Puppet shows and other programs have also been employed at the village level to discourage alcohol consumption.
The Drug-Free Campaign is a collaborative initiative between the Social and Justice Department of the Government of India, the Brahmakumari Institute, and the Drug-Free India Campaign. Brahmakumari Anju reported that within the last 41 days, the campaign reached 78,000 children across 367 schools. Additionally, there are 20 specialized centers in Rajkot district, and future programs will target factory workers to address drug addiction. On Raksha Bandhan day, August 15, a concerted effort will be made to motivate over 50,000 individuals to pledge a drug-free lifestyle, while also honoring those who have successfully overcome addiction.
Notable attendees at the meeting included DCP Crime Partharaj Singh Gohil, DLSA Judge, Women and Child Welfare Officer Avni Dave, ASW Shivali Laba, Social Security Officer Prathana Shersia, as well as officials and employees from the Department of Education, Health, and more.
