Rajkot Zoo, under the expert guidance of the Central Zoo Authority of India and the efforts of the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC), has evolved into a prime destination for tourists visiting Saurashtra. A remarkable testament to its popularity is the estimated 75,000 visitors that are recorded at the zoo during the Janmashtami festivities each year. Typically, the zoo remains closed for visitors every Friday. However, in light of Janmashtami celebrations falling on a Friday this year, the zoo will remain open to visitors on Friday, 8th September 2023. This decision aims to ensure the well-being of visitors and enable them to explore the park on this special day, as conveyed by Rajkot Mayor Dr. Pradeep Dav, Standing Committee Chairman Pushkarbhai Patel, Rajkot Municipal Commissioner Anand Patel, and Chairman of the Garden and Zoo Committee Anitaben Goswami.

Furthermore, additional ticket counters have been set up at the zoo, so that visitors need not endure long queues. Additional security personnel have also been deployed to guarantee the safety of visitors and the entire park.

Currently, Rajkot Zoo hosts an impressive array of 550 wild animals and birds, representing 67 different species. Among its star attractions are the Asiatic lion, white tiger, Royal Bengal tiger, leopard, Himalayan bear, sloth bear, four species of monkeys, various species of snakes, two species of crocodiles, diverse deer species, and a multitude of bird species. These animals and birds are housed in modern enclosures, not only for the enjoyment of visitors but also to contribute to wildlife conservation and breeding efforts.

In addition to the zoo’s offerings, visitors can now witness two playful white tiger cubs, born nine months ago, alongside their mother. This adorable sight promises to be a special highlight, especially for young visitors such as children, during the Janmashtami festivities.

Rajkot Zoo stands as a vibrant testament to the commitment to preserving wildlife and providing an enjoyable and educational experience for all who visit.
