The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, under the National Health Mission launched the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), an innovative and ambitious initiative, which envisages Child Health Screening and Early Intervention Services, a systemic approach to early identification and link to care, support and treatment.

Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) is a kind program to improve the overall quality of life of children enabling all children to achieve their full potential and also providing comprehensive care to all the children in the community. This program involves screening of children from birth to 18 years of age for 4 Ds- Defects at birth, Diseases, Deficiencies, and Development delays, spanning 32 common health conditions for early detection and free treatment and management, including surgeries at the tertiary level.

Nisha Vasava delivered a premature 31-week baby in Shree Chhotubhai A Patel Hospital and Community Health Centre at Mota Fofalia, Shinor Taluka in Vadodara on Thursday. However, it was shocking for the tribal family that the baby was born with a deformity where the food pipe was not connected to the stomach resulting in tracheoesophageal fistula deformity. The government’s program Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) saved the life of the infant.

The 23-year-old Nisha Vasava hailing from Simli village and from a tribal family was devasted to discover the deformity of her second child when she delivered the baby in CHC Shree Chhotubhai A Patel Hospital. Under the RBSK program, the baby went under treatment and will go for the surgery free of cost. The baby is under observation at Neonatal ICU and will be shifted to the tertiary center and SSG Hospital, Vadodara first and then to Ahmedabad for the surgery after the doctor’s opinion. The treatment, surgery, and transportation are all covered under this scheme.
