“Vadodara District Implements Measures to Ensure Public Safety and Minimize Environmental Impact of Festive Fireworks”
In a move aimed at safeguarding public health and curbing noise pollution during Diwali and other festivals, the Government of Gujarat has issued directives concerning the manufacture, sale, and usage of firecrackers in Vadodara district. The announcement, effective until November 17, 2023, outlines various restrictions and guidelines.
The Additional District Magistrate of Vadodara, Dr. B. S. Prajapati, has released a notification outlining specific measures to prevent fire-related accidents and ensure public safety during the festive season.
- Government Directives: The Government of Gujarat has issued directives to regulate the manufacture, sale, and usage of firecrackers during festivals in Vadodara district.
- Effective Date: These directives are in effect until November 17, 2023.
- Applicability: The rules apply to the entire Vadodara rural district, including the municipal area, and the Vadodara Manpa, except for areas under the jurisdiction of the Police Commissioner of Vadodara district.
- Restricted Timings: Firecrackers are permitted during Diwali and other festivals between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM. For Christmas and New Year, the timeframe is from 11:55 PM to 12:30 AM.
- E-commerce Restrictions: E-commerce websites are prohibited from selling firecrackers. Only licensed dealers are authorized to distribute them.
- Supreme Court Order: Licensed vendors must follow the Supreme Court’s order from October 23, 2023, allowing the sale of specific firecrackers and banning the use of barium in fireworks.
- Silent Zones: A 100-meter radius around hospitals, nursing homes, health centers, educational institutions, courts, and religious places is designated as a “silent zone” where firecrackers are prohibited.
- Prohibition of Chinese Tukkal: The manufacture, sale, or release of Chinese tukkal/fireworks balloons is strictly prohibited.
- No-firecracker Zones: Public roads, streets, and footpaths are designated as no-firecracker zones for the sake of public safety.
- Penalties for Violation: Violators of these regulations may face penalties under Section 131 of the Gujarat Police Act-1951 and Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
- Balancing Festivities and Safety: These measures aim to strike a balance between celebrating festivals and safeguarding public health and the environment, emphasizing the importance of responsible firecracker usage during the festive season.
