Revolutionizing Railways: The USBRL Project and the World’s Highest Railway Bridge in the Kashmir Valley

The world’s highest railway bridge, the Chenab Bridge in the Kashmir Valley, is well on its way to connecting the region with the Indian railway network. The Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, recently paid a visit to the bridge to inspect the progress of the USBRL project.

During his visit, Minister Vaishnaw made a trolley inspection of the bridge and tunnel and commended the hard work and dedication of all railway staff involved in the project. He also interacted with the media and announced that the USBRL project would be completed by Jan/Feb-2024, with an allocation of Rs. 6000 crore made in the year 2022-23. Before 2014, this allocation was only Rs. 800 crore per year.

The Minister also announced that a specially built Vande Bharat train would be started after connecting with the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramula train service. Additionally, a special training academy for engineers would be set up at Jammu.

The USBRL project is progressing well, and the Minister has shown a laser-sharp focus on the country’s development. The Chenab Bridge and Tunnel are poised to become vital links connecting the Kashmir Valley to the rest of India’s railway network.
