Fit India Campaign has inspired rifle shooter to cycle 1,750 km in just 3 months.

Anju Sharma, has won many medals at the state level in rifle shooting since 2007 and also has represented India at the Open International Level. What is remarkable is that Anju is a rifle shooter and has completed 1,750 km by cycling, within just 3 months to widen the awareness of PM’s Fit India Campaign.

Anju had joined NCC in 2007 and had taken up rifle shooting and won many medals in 10-meter and 50-meter rifle shooting. She was the only female rifle shooter from Gujarat who participated in the 300-meter competition. Having received many medals in the Nationals, she next wanted to represent India in the international level of rifle shooting and won medals for the same.

She practiced rifle shooting from Monday to Saturday and on Sundays she used to cycle 50-60km near Vadodara. She is determined to continue cycling further and represent India in international level of cycling competition.
Over the past few years, she has seen positive changes in herself and has developed quite a confident attitude.
Once while going home at night, two men on bike attempted to snatch the chain she was wearing. Since, she was active in sports she could defend herself immediately by knocking down the biker. At the same time another woman in the same area was severely beaten. Hence, she appeals all the women to involve themselves in sports before and after marriage too so that they can face any situation.
A woman should not be just bounded by familial ties. By defying that, women have achieved a position of decisive power in every sphere of social and national level. From protecting the borders of the country to space missions, women have represented our country in every field.

Anju Sharma has won 19 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 8 bronze medals in various competitions at international, national and state level in rifle shooting. In addition, Anju has also been awarded the Shaktidoot Award and the Sardar Patel Award by the Gujarat Government.
