Railway Protection Force (RPF) team of Mumbai Division caught a person traveling with illegal goods worth approx Rs 2.56 Crore.
Sumit Thakur, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, issued a press release on 24th November 2021. According to the report, CIB/Mumbai Central received reliable information that a person is going by train number. 12956 Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express with illegal goods.
Based on this information, the IPF CIB team did surveillance and intercepted Pankaj Chaurasya,45, a resident of Ujjain. During the investigation, he was found possessing 7-packages and confessed to carrying gold in his baggage.
The Assistant Security Commissioner for Mumbai Central opened the baggage in the presence of two other witnesses. Pieces of gold ornaments, bars, and pieces of metal weighing approximately 5kg, 203 precious stones, 10-new laptops with bags, Rs 8120 in cash, two mobile phones, and a GPS device were found. Excluding diamonds, the approx worth of other products is Rs2.56 crores.
The accused could not give a suitable reply about the source of the items nor could he give any documents regarding the possession of these commodities. RPF CIB has seized the whole property under Panchnama and has informed the Principal Director, Income Tax Mumbai, to take action. For further procedure, the seized items and apprehended suspect are under safe custody.
