People who lost their homes in a razing drive at Tandalja’s Sahakarnagar brought up a rally to demand accommodation. It’s their second rally within a fortnight. The people were promised with houses on the same plot where the settlement stood as a scheme was about to be established on the site on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode. It still hasn’t taken off.
The civic body had constructed 1428 houses and 75 shops last year in July at Sahakarnagar. People who had lost their homes in the scheme were to be given with residences on the remaining portion of the land by the developer.
Soon the project was blocked as a pond existed on the maps of the plot where the dwellings once stood.
Presently, only a small patch of the plot is remaining that too filled with sludge. And the remaining part has got filled up over the years.
One of the citizen also filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Gujarat High Court seeking for the maintenance of the water body.
Sahakaranagr residents hold second rally within fortnight
