Vadodara Sama police have nabbed two astrologers from Rajasthan in connection with the mass suicide case at Swati Society in Vadodara’s Sama area. Both were sent to SSG hospital for a Covid test and will be arrested by the police after the reports. Both the astrologers are said to be residents of Nagaur in Rajasthan.
Following the sensational incident, Sama Police conducted their search to form different teams to catch the astrologers. Finally, the team nabbed two astrologers from Rajasthan and took them to Sayaji Hospital late on Thursday night for the Covid test as per the procedure. Both will be arrested after the report.
Police had registered a complaint of cheating and fraud against nine astrologers, including two from Vadodara, in the Soni family’s mass suicide case in Vadodara. These astrologers from Vadodara and Ahmedabad cheated Narendra Soni by taking Rs 32.85 lakh from him, tempting him to have a kalash full of gold jewelry at home. Narendra Soni told the family members who were traumatized to commit suicide as there was no source of income to make a living. He bought the poison, mixed it in the cold drinks, and gave it to the family.
The grandfather, grandson, and daughter died on the spot in the mass suicide. After that, the mother and son Bhavin Soni also died during a short treatment. Based on the statement of the deceased Bhavin Soni in the case of mass suicide, the police booked nine astrologers for fraud of Rs 32 lakh. Out of these five of the fleeing astrologers applied to the Vadodara Court for anticipatory bail. The hearing will be held today.
One astrologer took Rs 35,000 for the ceremony and sent it to the astrologer in Ahmedabad and took out the pot of jewelry and bones after a ritual inside the house. Another one lured and collect 13.50 lakhs from the family and said to have 16 such kalash inside the house. He dug a pit and took out soil, bones, and silver in three pots. Ahmedabad-based astrologer Prahlad took Rs 2 lakh and removed a three-and-a-half-foot snake from the house. He demanded another seven lakhs for the remedy but Narendra Soni refused to give the money.
Samir Joshi, an astrologer from Ranip, Ahmedabad, took five lakhs and dug out four pots carrying bones and silver.
An astrologer from the Panigate area was given 3.50 lakhs and he dug out 10 silver coins and 1,920-year coins and took them with him.
The police are further investigating the matter to nab the remaining astrologers.
