To use your time efficiently you can catch up on amazing movies or series and marvel at the content available on online platforms other than your regular ‘Sooryavansham’ on TV.
Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hotstar have some amazing series and movies available on its platform. While there are other streaming platforms like Hulu, Zee 5, and VOOT for you to check out too.
Here’s a list of series and movies you definitely must check out to kill the boredom.
DRAMA
MONEY HEIST – To make your quarantine more fun add some drama to your life. Money Heist is a Spanish Language show on Netflix called La Casa de Papel is a crime drama. The plot centers around extremely high professional criminals who wish to rob the Royal Mint of Spain. The show is full of hostages, political messages, psychological games, and constant interpersonal conflict. It’ll keep you glued to your screen.
PEAKY BLINDERS – is a gangster family drama set in Birmingham, England in 1919 post World War I. The story revolves around the cunning and scheming boss – Tommy Shelby who belongs to the family of bookmaker accidentally steal some guns. It has every ingredient of drama to spice up your boring days. You can watch it on Netflix.
RIVERDALE – can be found on Netflix is a popular teen drama. Based on the popular Archies comics, it centers around a bunch of high-school students rattled by the death of their classmate. They unravel the secrets of their small town and the death of their mate. With teacher-student affairs, hook-ups, it also deals with issues like feminism, sisterhood, right, and wrong.
SHE – recently aired on Netflix and is a drama centered on the female sexuality of a policewoman along with depicting misogyny. It also shows police procedural about a villain and his big plans.
13 REASONS WHY – is available on Netflix. It’s a teen drama of young high school-going students, which deals with bullying and betrayal resulting in suicide.
NARCOS MEXICO– is a drama story based on Miguel Gallardo was a Mexican drug kingpin, who builds his empire by unifying the cannabis-growers and traffickers. It revolves around the rise of the empire, its collapse and failed friendships, and other consequences.
FICTION
SPECIAL OPS – is available on Hotstar. It’s a spy fiction revolving around the nabbing of the 2001 bombings mastermind. It evokes emotions for martyred, our country, the armed men, and others involved in it.
STRANGER THINGS – is available on Netflix. It’s science fiction series about how a boy goes missing near a top-secret government’s experiment laboratory. It starts off a chain of events that reveals the dark secrets of the government’s laboratory and supernatural forces at work.
ASUR – is available on Voot and is a fictional story. It explores the intricate forensic world and deep-seated mysticism of ancient Indian Mythology. It’s a unique crime thriller where the serial killer kills for his set-beliefs and the forensic expert tries to unravel the mysteries.
FANTASY
LUCIFER – is a popular show on Netflix. What happens when the Lord of Hell decides to reside in L.A? He faces a struggle between his temptation towards the good side versus his original calling towards the evil. What happens when his mother, with whom he has issues, escapes from hell? A sure shot entertainment to kill the dullness around you.
THE WITCHER – We are aware that humans are the worst monsters walking on the earth. The Witcher is a story of Geralt of Rivia who is a monster hunter and has developed supernatural abilities to battle wild beasts and monsters.
SITCOMS
F.R.I.E.N.D.S – is available on Netflix. It’s the most popular sitcom of the ’90s. Friends is a go-to series for most of us. For the uninitiated, Friends revolves around 6 friends who live in Manhattan. It shows the funny, romantic adventures and career issues, friendship, love between the 6.
BROOKLYNN 99 – is a sitcom on Netflix. Detective Jake Peralta, Captain Ray HOLT, Amy Santiago, Sergeant Terry Jeffords, Detective Charles Boyle, and others come together and interrogate suspects, make arrests and solve murders. It’s a workplace comedy that showcases not just their jobs, but a personality apart from their profession.
THE BIG BANG THEORY – available of Amazon Prime and Netflix is also a sitcom. It’s a comedy about brilliant physicists who suck at interacting with people, especially women. It’s about the lives of an unsuccessful actress turned waitress, the other nerd friends. It explores their love, friendship, awkwardness, stupidity, brilliant academic performances.
THRILLER
GUILTY – is available on Netflix and is a thriller, It’s a he-said-she-said story of a valentine’s day-night of a small- town, attention-seeking girl who files a rape complaint on the most popular band guy of the college and a son of a politician who also has a girlfriend. It’s set on the timeline of #metoo and offers the perspective of a situation.
YOU – is a psychological thriller series available on Netflix. The central character is a worker in a bookstore and falls in love with a girl. He studies her by stalking and breaking in at her place. At the same time, his past action with his ex-girlfriend makes her vengeful and wants to reveal his true side to everyone. It’ll keep you on the edge and make you feel all the emotions it has to offer.
DOCUMENTARY
PANDEMIC: HOW TO PREVENT AN OUTBREAK – is available on Netflix. It a documentary series about influenza, ebola virus, anti-vaxxers, etc. It gained immense attention due to the timely release of the series and the outbreak of coronavirus which hasn’t been contained yet. It shows people fighting these diseases and how the world fought to contain it.
THE FORGOTTEN ARMY – Azaadi ke liye is a documentary available on Amazon Prime. Based on the forgotten chapter of the Indian Army which was formed by Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, from the viewpoint of the soldiers. It narrates the story of those 55,000 men and women who fought in a battle along with the contributions of Bose in the freedom of India.
STAND UP COMEDY
JIGSAW – is a live show by Daniel Sloss who talks about dad jokes, vegans, relationship patterns with a very dark sense of humor. If you have a dark and humorous side to yourself, you should check out his stand-ups.
NANETTE – is available on Netflix. It’s a live stand-up by Hannah Gadsby whose every joke has a story paired with timed punchlines, personal revelations about gender, sexuality, and her childhood. The best way to laugh through these tough times is to watch stand-ups.

CONTAGION – is an apocalyptic movie released in 2011. It’s available on Netflix. The name of the movie went viral after the outbreak of novel coronavirus and its eerie resemblance to the plot to the situation right now. It deals with a global pandemic disease-causing paranoia amongst the people across the globe.
