The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has banned the use of single-use plastic as per the order of the Central Government. As per the Government Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 under Swachh Bharat Mission, plastic bags with a thickness of less than 50 microns have been banned by the central government. The corporation will take legal action against the violators of the law.
Various measures are being taken to save the environment in the wake of global warming in the country and the world. The declaration of the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change of the Central Government has been amended by a letter from the Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission Urban.
The government will be taking out this operation in phases. Right now, single-use plastic with less than 50 microns is banned. After 31st December 2022, single-use plastic which is less than 120 microns will be banned.
Any person, organization, or shopkeeper violating this law will be penalized as per the rules. It is to be noted here that the plastic which is not reused after being used once is called single-use plastic like carry bags, wrapping or packing film, cutlery, straw, foam cups, plates and bowls, laminated bowls and plates, plastic sticks, and earbuds, banners up to 100 microns on the road, plastic flags, up to 200 ml small plastic cups, etc. are included in single-use plastic. Thus, by banning single-use plastics we can participate in protecting the environment from the effects of global warming without using plastics.
The alternatives of these products like cotton bags, paper bags, wooden cutlery, reusable metal straws or paper cups, cotton flags can be used for future requirements, making earth more green and livable.
