In a bid to bolster agriculture and enhance crop protection, the government has allocated additional funds in this year’s budget for the purchase of solar power kits. This initiative aims to assist farmers in implementing solar fencing in their fields, a measure that has already benefited thousands of farmers in the state. This year, an additional Rs. 50 crore has been set aside for this purpose, with an estimated 33,000 farmers expected to benefit from the scheme.
Under the program, registered farmer-account holders across the state will receive financial assistance amounting to 50% of the total expenses incurred or Rs. 15,000, whichever is lower. The initiative has proven effective, with 13,000 farmers benefiting from a similar scheme last year.
The objective of this scheme, known as the “Solar Fencing Assistance Scheme,” is to reduce farming costs, encourage crop rotation, and protect crops by providing subsidies to farmers for installing solar fencing. Farmers must meet certain eligibility criteria, including land ownership, to avail themselves of this scheme.
The government’s continued support for such initiatives highlights its commitment to promoting sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices, ultimately benefiting both farmers and the environment. Through these efforts, farmers in Gujarat are set to maximize their crop yields and reduce farming expenses, contributing to the state’s agricultural growth.
