Vadodara SSG hospital is using laughter, sports, and music therapies to help patients recover.
Patients are being given music therapy to keep them energetic throughout the day. The will power of the mind is cultivated to recover from the disease. Not just music but even laughter and group sports therapy are also being used to keep the respiratory function of the patients balanced and normal. Also, yoga and various types of exercises are being done with the help of the Physiotherapy Department.
These non-medical therapies will help the patients to cultivate the will power to heal. “More than 50 speakers are being installed on each floor of the hospital for playing music”, said Dr. O.B. Belim, Administrative Nodal Officer. In addition to that, a microphone system is being fitted for the public to transmit the necessary instructions to the patients on each floor.
They are planning to have singers and musicians from the cultural city of Vadodara to serve the COVID patients through the control room. After the music system is installed, it is planned to play melodious bhajans for 10 minutes every morning after breakfast and inspirational and patriotic songs 10 minutes before dinner. The ICU will not be fitted with a speaker instead the speaker will be placed in a recovery room for stable patients.
These experiments have been carried out with the inspiration of Principal Health Secretary Dr. Jayanti Ravi. She is interested in classical music and is a connoisseur of Carnatic music. Special Duty Officer and Education Secretary Dr. Vinod Rao has encouraged and backed these experiments. The features of this new therapy are expected to speed their recovery.
