Statewide Protest by Opposition for BJP’s MP Suspension Stunt

The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued stringent measures against 142 MPs who recently suspended Opposition MPs, affecting various aspects of their Parliamentary roles. Prohibitions include entry into the Parliament chamber, lobby, and galleries. Participation in Committee sittings and the consideration of business under their names are restricted. Notices tabled by them won’t be accepted, and they are ineligible to vote in committee elections during the suspension. Additionally, the circular notes the denial of daily allowances for the suspension period, aligning with the Salary, Allowances, and Pensions of Members of Parliament Act, 1954, implying that their stay during suspension doesn’t qualify as duty residence.

To which the Congress and the TMC members also sat down for protest outside the Parliament and made mimicry videos and whatnot!

The repercussions of Delhi were seen in Gujarat as well where the Congress members in Vadodara also sat down on protest, saying slogans like, ‘Government Does Not Believe in Democracy’ and that BJP has murdered democracy…

Vadodara City Congress held a demonstration at Gandhinagar Gruh to defend democracy, decrying the unprecedented suspension of 142 MPs by the BJP government. Describing it as an attack on democratic principles, Congress accused the Modi government of transforming Parliament into a dormant entity. The arrests occurred during a nationwide protest organized by Congress at Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Griha, condemning the heavy-handed actions against democracy. The party asserted that the suspension of MPs reflects a brazen assault on democratic foundations, emphasizing the need for collective opposition against the Modi government’s alarming actions.

Whereas, in Surat…

Surat City Congress District Committee staged a protest against the BJP government’s decision to suspend 142 MPs. Congress members, intending to demonstrate at Ambedkar’s statue on Ring Road, were preemptively detained by the police. Congress alleges the Modi government is undermining democracy, with police detaining activists before the planned protest could take place.

And..

The Aam Aadmi Party – Surat has formally appealed to the President of India, decrying the government’s suspension of opposition MPs as a democracy-violating act. In their letter, they emphasize the constitutional right of elected Members of Parliament to represent the voice of the people, viewing the suspensions as a breach of the sacred parliamentary space for debate and dissent. The appeal urges the President to intervene constitutionally, emphasizing the historical repercussions of expelling a significant number of MPs. They request the immediate revocation of suspensions and the reinstatement of the MPs to fulfill their roles as representatives in the House.
