Successful mock-drill at Nandesari’s Reliance Industries today

Government agencies and industrial units conduct mock tests to test their vigilance, activeness, and rescue operations of the safety department. The state’s Labor and Employment Department is celebrating safety month from 15th August – 15th September to reduce industrial accidents. Therefore, a mock drill was successfully conducted at  Reliance Industries, Nandesari, with immediate response from the government agencies including fire, health, police for the event of propylene gas leakage from the tanker which was contained in just 15 minutes. The drill was conducted under the guidance and supervision of Province Officer, Rajesh Thummar.

The mock drill exercise involved two people who were rescued from the gas leak and moved to the medical facility. An all-clear signal was given after the whole situation came under control. A medical team with state-of-the-art equipment including PPE suit, breathing apparatus for human rescue, reached the spot and carried out the rescue operations. Water curtains and fire tenders were used to prevent the gas from spreading into the atmosphere.

A nearby petrol pump and equipment on a public road were shut down due to a leak of propylene gas which is dangerous for humans. “Government agencies including fire, police, GPCB responded effectively to the mock drill of propylene gas leakage from a tanker in Reliance Industries and the gas leakage incident was brought under control in a short time,” said Provincial officer Rajesh Thummar. The local resource was used with the cooperation from the safety department of the nearby industrial units.

He also added that in the industrial pocket where hazardous chemical and gas manufacturing activities are rampant, in any case of a mishap the resources of the safety department of the surrounding industrial units and government agencies have to be utilized and have to be tested periodically and today’s drill was a part of the exercise.

Mamlatdar Y.R. Gosai, M.U. Patel of GPCB, officials of the Industries Association, and Employees of the Safety Department of nearby industrial units were present during the mock drill.
