Surat’s 108 Emergency Services team has made headlines for their outstanding performance in delivering a baby in an ambulance at midnight. The incident occurred when a 26-year-old pregnant woman, Vinu, residing in Hazira area, went into labour and required urgent medical attention. The 108 emergency services team received the call at Ugatagam location around 12:30 am and immediately dispatched an ambulance to transport the woman to the hospital.
However, while en route to the civil hospital, the woman’s condition worsened, and she experienced severe labour pains near Ichapore. In a decisive move, the EMT Kalpesh Thakor, who was accompanying the woman, decided to halt the ambulance and deliver the baby there. With utmost care and precision, Thakor successfully delivered the baby, who weighed a healthy 3.5 kg.
Following the delivery, under the guidance of Doctor Bhavik from the head office of 108 in Ahmedabad, the newborn received appropriate care and was shifted to the civil hospital. The family of the woman expressed their gratitude towards the 108 team and praised the professionalism and dedication of EMT Kalpesh Thakor and Pilot Anil Rathore.
