Sustainable Villages: Transforming Dumad and Alva Villages

“Striving for Cleaner Villages and Sustainable Waste Management”

In a remarkable stride towards cleanliness and sustainable waste management, Dumad and Alva villages in Vadodara district have been designated as model villages under the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin Yojana. This accolade was followed by a thorough evaluation conducted by Karanjit Singh, an esteemed officer from the central government, who assessed the profound impact of government initiatives in these rural areas.

A Comprehensive Review

Karanjit Sangh, Director of the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, embarked on a journey to Dumad and Alva villages, meticulously inspecting all solid and liquid waste management facilities during his visit.

Alva village has achieved remarkable progress in solid and liquid waste management, thanks to the collaborative efforts of Adutlo Tyres, L&T, Harsiddhi Co-operation, and the Gram Panchayat. The village now stands as a shining example of cleanliness and beauty.

Meanwhile, Dumad Gram Panchayat has been actively engaged in solid waste management since 2017. Their systematic approach involves door-to-door waste collection, supported by the Kachre Se Azadi Foundation and Gram Panchayat. A dedicated team of six laborers ensures the proper segregation and disposal of waste. Wet waste undergoes composting, while plastics are meticulously separated for recycling by a specialized company.

Incentivizing Positive Change

In a novel initiative, Dumad Gram Panchayat introduced a reward system for residents who contribute to plastic waste separation. Those who bring one kilogram of plastic are incentivized with Rs. 10 or even essential items like soap and vegetables. This creative approach aims to instill responsible behavior among the populace.

Furthermore, Dumad Gram Panchayat employs 22 sanitation workers who tirelessly clean public roads and spaces. Their dedication is not only acknowledged but also remunerated by the Gram Panchayat.

Commendations for Cleanliness

Director Mr. Karanjit Singh visited various locations within these villages, engaging in in-depth discussions about solid and liquid waste management. He wholeheartedly congratulated the communities for their unwavering commitment to cleanliness.

During this momentous visit, Gopal Bamania, Director of the District Village Development Agency, Dr. Sudhir Joshi, Nodal Officer, Bharat Chaudhary, Zilla Panchayat Chitnish, and Chirag Gadhvi, Deputy Chitnish from Gandhinagar, also joined in the inspection, emphasizing the collaborative efforts driving these villages towards a cleaner and greener future.
