An application was submitted to the District Collector by Vadodara Swayam Sainik Dal seeking death sentence for the accused involved in the Hathras rape incident in Uttar Pradesh and the accused in the murder of a Dalit social worker in Rapar. They threatened to intensify their agitation in case their demands are not met by the administration and seek justice in both incidents.
On September 14, a 19-year-old woman had gone to the fields with her mother and went missing soon after. She was found later, beaten and tortured, and her tongue cut. Protests broke out in several parts of the country with many voicing their opinions over the horrific incident and how the funeral was conducted.
Swayamsevak Dal Workers arrived at the District Collector’s Office in the morning to give a memorandum. Maintaining social distancing the activists chanted slogans demanding justice for the rapist in Hathras and the murder of a social worker at Rapar. They gave a memorandum to the Collector later on and demanded capital punishment for the accused in the Hathras rape case as well as a severe punishment for the accused in the murder of a social worker.
Bhaveshbhai, a leader of the Swayam Sainik Dal said, that the atrocities are being perpetrated by targeting the Dalit community in the country from time to time. The country is running on the constitution written by Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar. Then, there should be a uniform law in the whole country. They demanded that the killers of Devjibhai be caught by the police and strict action be taken against them. Besides, we demand that the accused in the Hathras rape case in Uttar Pradesh be hanged. He further said that if justice is not done in both the cases there will be fierce agitation by the Dalit community across the country.
Mitesh Parmar, a leader of the Valmiki community, said an application would be handed over to the district collector at 4 pm with a demand for the death penalty for the accused in the Hathras rape case in Uttar Pradesh.
At 9 o’clock night at the Racecourse, they planned to light a candle at Dr. Ambedkar Circle to pay homage to the Dalit daughter.
