Swiggy food delivery boy dies in an accident

In a bid to deliver food hot and fast, yet another delivery boy lost his life in a fatal accident on Thursday night. 22-year-old Afzal Mukhtiyarahemad Shaikh, who is a food delivery boy for Swiggy, was en route a delivery on Gorwa Canal Panchavati after 11 pm last night when a fatal accident took his life.

Though more details about this gruesome accident will be updated later, this is not the first time an app delivery employee has lost his life when he was trying to complete an order. Shaikh had fatal head injuries during the accident which could have been easily prevented if he was wearing a helmet.

Guidelines for Swiggy don’t include a strict helmet wearing policy for their employees which could have saved Shaikh’s life. Plus, delivery boys generally are on a strict timeline to deliver food as soon as possible and often speed up their bikes and jump traffic signals as soon as possible.

This is not the first fatality for employees of apps like Zomato and Swiggy. It’s become a nationwide phenomenon that delivery boys lose their lives because of either not helmets, speeding or because of potholes.

Our Vadodara has tried to reach out to the Swiggy team in Vadodara for a comment on their helmet policy and the compensation to be provided to the victim’s policy, but there hasn’t been any response.
