While the country is celebrating Teachers’ Day, Vadodara today witnessed a protest from teachers demanding to restart the classes.
The tuition classes have been closed for the last 6 months due to the pandemic situation. During Unlock-4, there was an outcry amongst them as they were not allowed to open tuition classes. Tuition teachers in Vadodara City are now demanding to resume tuition classes. They said that Unlock-4 has given relaxations in every area, but has not been allowed to start tuition classes. So they gathered at the Mahatma Gandhinagar Gruh under the aegis of the Baroda Academic Association, and staged a sit-in protest with banners and posters demanding a relief package for tuition class and provide relief from various taxes.
Academic Association Secretary Milan Shah said, “The board’s students’ education is also suffering but the government is not taking action in view of it. Teachers have been sitting at home for the last 6 months.” He also raised the question about how will these tuition teachers pay their loans and taxes today. He further added that the classes should be allowed to resume and they will teach students following the COVID 19 guidelines.
Later on, Raopura Police detained five teachers of Baroda Academic Association for violating the notification after they reached the District Collector’s Office to hand over the memorandum.
