Tyre Killer Bumps: a three-word horror story for reckless drivers in Ahmedabad??

Ahmedabad, a bustling metropolis in Gujarat, has taken a commendable step to enhance road safety and deter wrong-side driving. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), in collaboration with the Traffic Engineering Department, has initiated a trial of “Tyre Killer Bumps” in key locations across the city. These innovative measures are aimed at curbing wrong-side driving and promoting compliance with traffic rules to create safer and more disciplined roads.

Installation and checking of tyre killer bumps

The Tyre Killer Bumps are specialized speed breakers designed to puncture or damage the tires of vehicles traveling in the wrong direction. By strategically placing these bumps on one-way roads or areas where wrong-side driving is prevalent, the authorities aim to discourage motorists from taking unauthorized routes, thereby ensuring smoother traffic flow and reducing the risk of accidents.

One of the first areas to witness the installation of Tyre Killer Bumps is the location near Chanakyapuri Bridge in Ahmedabad’s Ghatlodia area. This particular location was chosen due to multiple wrong-side driving incidents reported from there. The installation is part of a pilot project to assess the effectiveness of these bumps in deterring errant drivers and improving overall road safety.

The Traffic Engineer Department of AMC has been actively involved in implementing this new measure. They have identified various locations where the Tire Killer Bumps could have the maximum impact in reducing wrong-side driving. In addition to installing the bumps, the department is planning to put up informative signs to educate motorists about the potential consequences of violating traffic rules.

The primary goal of introducing the Tyre Killer Bumps is to instill a sense of responsibility and adherence to traffic regulations among drivers. By creating a fear of tire damage or punctures, it is hoped that motorists will be dissuaded from attempting to drive on the wrong side of the road. This, in turn, will lead to safer roads for everyone, including pedestrians and law-abiding drivers.

To support the installation of Tyre Killer Bumps and create greater awareness about road safety, the Traffic Engineer Department is planning to launch a road safety awareness campaign. The campaign will focus on educating the public about the importance of following traffic rules and the potential consequences of violating them. Through this initiative, they aim to foster a culture of responsible driving and reduce road accidents.

The introduction of Tyre Killer Bumps in Ahmedabad marks a significant step towards ensuring safer roads and better traffic management. By targeting wrong-side driving and encouraging compliance with traffic rules, the authorities are taking proactive measures to safeguard the lives of motorists and pedestrians alike.
