Vadodara: Building sealed after it failed to meet fire safety standards

The Vadodara Fire Brigade suspended electric supply to Profit Centre, a business building in the Kala Ghoda district, on Saturday after it failed to follow fire safety guidelines. The building failed to respond to the fire department’s notice regarding fire safety regulations, and the department has decided to sell it to ensure the protection of the citizens.

The Vadodara Fire Brigade team, along with GEB and other teams, arrived at the Profit Centre building on Saturday and disconnected the power supply before sealing the facility for failing to meet fire safety regulations.“Due to the lack of fire safety, the building has been blocked off by the fire department. The building has been putting off installing fire safety equipment and putting people’s lives in danger for the past year. The Gujarat Fire Prevention and Life Safety Act of 2013 was used to lock the structure”, Amit Chaudhary, a fire official, remarked.

The Vadodara Fire Brigade Department, which is operated by the Vadodara Mahanagar Seva Sadan, undertook a fire safety audit of the structures for the safety of the residents.

Organizations without fire safety facilities were also sent notices. However, despite repeated warnings, many buildings ignored the situation, and the fire department began to seal off the affected areas.

Many people lost their lives as a result of fires in hospitals, classrooms, and high-rise buildings that treated covid patients during the pandemic. To avoid such occurrences, the state administration received an order by the High Court to rigidly enforce fire safety. On this premise, the state government issued a circular requiring all cities to adhere to severe fire safety regulations.
