A ‘plastic-free’ Vadodara can be a reality sooner than we imagined.
In 2018, PM Narendra Modi initiated a campaign to make India ‘plastic-free’. This campaign was taken rather seriously by Municipalities of major cities by taking stringent actions and imposing heavy fines.
However, plastic ban was only partially imposed in Gujarat. To make Vadodara clean and green again, the newly appointed Municipal Commissioner of Vadodara has issued a Public Notice to completely ban single use plastic from the city.
Items such as plastic cups, pouches, bags, dish, spoons, bowls, straw, cutlery used in restaurants and hotels such as containers and bowls, thermocol cups, plastic used for food packaging, etc. shall be completely banned. The notification states that strict action will be taken against anyone or any organization who will be found selling or using single-use plastic.
The notice also promotes use of eco-friendly items such as ‘kulhad’ and make Vadodara a ‘plastic-free city’.
