On Wednesday, the Vadodara Police had to intervene in the chaos that developed due to the distribution of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana forms for citizens. The team caught a man, suspected of distributing tokens due to which chaos developed outside the office of the ‘Affordable Housing Scheme’ in Raopura.
Beneficiaries are rushing to get the forms for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’s 2,132 affordable housing units in Vadodara’s Harni, Gotri, Subhanpura, and Kalai neighborhoods. Long queues outside the Vadodara Corporation’s Affordable Housing Scheme office in Raopura for the past two days, causing traffic congestion.
Due to the high volume of traffic, police officers were stationed to maintain order. Following that, the decision has been made that forms will be available till December 31st, by Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC).
Meanwhile, there was a flurry of activity as officials began a new line and a private individual distributed tokens to the recipients. As people attempted to force their way into the office, chaos ensued, with many people, particularly ladies, falling to the ground.
Police arrived on the scene and took command of the situation, which appeared to be spiraling out of control. They apprehended the teen, who claimed in his defense that the token issuing officer was leaving work and was handing out tokens by entering names into a record, and he had come to retrieve the token.
The teenager, however, is not from the department and is doing it on his own, according to deputy engineer Nilesh Parmar. They were compelled to summon the cops to handle the situation due to the high volume of traffic. Although some beneficiaries have expressed dissatisfaction with the token system, it was implied after the cops came.
