Sayaji Baug Zoo, Vadodara, will welcome a pair of lions from the SakkarBaug Zoo, Junagadh. The authorities are hopeful that this young pair will reproduce and bring more cubs to the zoo. The couple is currently quarantined and will be shown to the public after 15 days.
The young, healthy couple arrived in Vadodara on Sunday, to the delight of zoo officials, who awaited their arrival with bated breath.
“It’s a joyful day for us since a young sub-adult couple, roughly one year and eight months old, has come, giving us hope. Due to the death of the lioness, the previous pair split up, and we were unable to reproduce despite our best efforts. We’re hoping for good pairing and breeding cubs in our zoo now that we’ve got this young, healthy pair. We now have good open cages for lions to roam freely in, and we are optimistic about the future,” Sayaji Baug Zoo Curator, Pratyush Patankar remarked.
