Vadodara Speaks: Gori Tere Pyaar Mein Audience Verdict

This week, I have decided to take a break from reviewing. Bollywood brings us two new releases this Friday: ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ and ‘Singh Sahab the Great’. The former film pairs forever chocolate boy (who could never be convincing in his tough guy roles’) Imran Khan with forever bubbly and vivacious kudi (who could be convincing even in some non-showy performances) Kareena Kapoor Khan. The latter marks the

comeback of Sunny Deol, the Sardar ka Angry Puttar (with an explosive ‘Nobody fu…messes with the Sardars!’ countenance in the posters) who spent the last three years playing one of the stooges in Yamla Pagla Deewana alongside chota bhai Bobby and of course daddy Dharmendra.

I didn’t make it to these movies but a few people did, and most youngsters opted for ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’, which features not two but three youth icons; Shraddha Kapoor, who rose to popularity after playing the female lead in Aashiqui 2, also makes an appearance in the film. Now, while a well-informed, discerning critic may be the best person to trust, it’s also very helpful to get the public’s opinion about the film, because in the end, it’s money or box office collections which matters for everybody (although exceptions exist, and its these filmmakers and producers who are willing to take greater risks for more satisfying rewards). Too many opinions on the internet may make it difficult for the public to decide whether the film’s worth checking out or not. So here I have a concise verdict from a few Barodians who gave ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’ a chance:

Rating: 2.5/5

Kashyap Solanki, student: “Individually, Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor are amazing actors. However, when put together, they fail to build up a good love story. There is no chemistry between the two and the story is too predictable, which makes the second half very slow and predictable. Only for love birds and fans of Kareena. I rate it 2.5 out of 5, 3.5 for the first half and just 2 for the second”.

Rating: 2.5/5

Ankita Suvarna, student: “It’s a family entertainer like Malhotra’s previous film I Hate Luv Stories. I saw it because Imran Khan is my favorite actor, and he plays a South Indian this time… which kept me entertained throughout the first half. I even liked the chemistry between Imran and Kareena Kapoor, but the film drags after interval. The ending itself is quite predictable. I rate it 2.5 out of 5.

Rating: 0/5

Kirti Makhija, student: “Same concept, same story, bad script, bad writing, bad music, hopeless acting and absolutely no chemistry! Punit Malhotra, try do something different! This movie gets a big no and a 0 out of 5 from me.”

Rating: 2.5/5

Radhika Shah, student: “Imran played an assistant director in I Hate Luv Stories and he now plays an architect. But there’s nothing different about his screen personality and he plays the same flirty casanova again. We want something different Imran! … The chemistry between Kareena and him is okay but the age difference shows. Shraddha was amazing though. A time-pass film overall. 2.5 out of 5.”

Rating: 2.5/5

Gautami Sawant: “It has done full justice to its name. Two opposite personalities clash, then fall in love, then separate because of circumstances only to reunite after realizing they truly love each other. The movie is quite similar to Ek Mein Aur Ek Tu in terms of the characters and story. Yet, Imran Khan pulls off his character’s transformation from a vela (slacker) to a responsible fellow quite convincingly. I found it quite entertaining as a romantic comedy, but the second half was too dreary. I rate it 2.5 out of 5”

Seems like this audience found the film to be another predictable romantic comedy without the desired chemistry between its leads to make it memorable. Tell us what you thought about the film?
